American Car Rental Association Proposes New Two-Tier System To Recall Vehicles

The American Car Rental Association, wants the government to take up a new two-tier system that will designate the recall of certain vehicles as serious enough to not allow them to be driven , while vehicles in better condition will be allowed to be driven and repaired at a later stage. This will help the American Car Rental Association to identify which vehicles need to be grounded. However, several consumer organizations say that this proposal of the American Car Rental Association might prove a safety setback for renters.
Bob Barton, president of the American Car Rental Association, says that the word 'recall' covers a wide range of problems. Hence, Rental car companies, fleet operators and consumers require in-depth information by the manufacturers on how fast a vehicle recall should be conducted. The car rental association's proposal intends to make the government more concerned about recall repair rates of vehicles.
